Floradale Resort, this is where the Mac Woods Dune Scooters got their start. Floradale Resort was built by Mac Woods at the turn of the century. It's hard to find the original house now that there are so many cottages in the area.

I would bet these are the 1st, 34 Ford dune buggys ever built.

I was going thru a photo album that contains pictures of my trips to Silver Lake sand dunes since 1978 when I came across a picture that I hope makes everyone at least snicker a bit. Now to setup the circumstances.
I lost the toss, so I had to drive into town to pick up a dozen eggs. The town is the booming metropolis of Silver Lake, actually a small resort community. So Saturday morning at 7:30am I'm driving down the main road thru town when I see this sign that the previous evening at around 12:30 am, read "Cold Beer, Hot Dogs, and Brats".
I was laughing so hard I had to pull over because I couldn't see, so while I was stopped, I thought I had better snap a picture so everyone would believe me. I didn't want to stick around too long and have someone think that I screwed around with the sign.

Upon closer inspection of the picture, I see some of the unused letters laying in the grass.

M.S.B.A. Patch. The Michigan Sport Buggy Association sanctions the Mount Baldy Hillclimb at Silver Lake. It is also one of the few off road buggy clubs in the Great Lakes area.

HART PEA FACTORY. Next time you drive thru Hart, Michigan on your way to Silver Lake you can amaze your friends by telling them, Did you know that Hart was once home to the largest pea canning facility in the world! Now that's some worthwhile trivia.

SEAPLANE 1

When you are bouncing around the lake on a WaveRunner and you hear the roar of an airplane coming up behind you, then you see an airplane getting ready to land over the top of you...It makes for some anxious moments.

Headed out to sea (Silver Lake) for a takeoff. So much for a great swim platform.

The "Silver Queen" (WWII US ARMY Duck) going ashore. The Silver Queen was operated by the "FloraDale Resort". I have yet been able to find out exactly where the "Silver Lake Resort" was located.
